Argentina’s northwest region contains the province of Catamarca (pronounced [kataˈmaʍka] in Spanish). According to the 2022 census conducted by the INDEC, the province has 429,556 residents and a total area of 102,602 km^. It has a 95.5% literacy rate. The neighboring provinces are La Rioja, Córdoba, Santiago del Estero, Tucumán, Salta, and Tucumán, going clockwise from the north. It shares a border with Chile to the west.
