Of all the provinces in Argentina, Tucumán (pronounced [tukuˈman] in Spanish) has the highest population density and the second-smallest land area.

San Miguel de Tucumán, popularly known as Tucumán, is the provincial capital of this northwest-based province. From north to south, the neighboring provinces are: Salta, Santiago del Estero, and Catamarca. Given its excellent agricultural productivity, it is known as El Jardín de la República, or The Garden of the Republic.
