One of Austria’s nine Länder, or states, is Upper Austria. Linz is its capital city. Along with the other Austrian states of Lower Austria, Styria, and Salzburg, Upper Austria has borders with Germany and the Czech Republic. Upper Austria is the third most populous state in Austria and the fourth largest by land area, covering 11,982 km2 (4,626 sq mi) with 1.49 million residents.
