It is home to 88% of the Lucayan Archipelago’s population and 97% of its land area. The archipelagic nation, which is made up of over 3,000 islands, cays, and islets in the Atlantic Ocean, is situated southeast of the state of Florida in the United States, east of the Florida Keys, north of Cuba, and northwest of the island of Hispaniola, which is divided between Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
