Bahrain is home to the city of Jidhafs (Arabic: جدحفص, romanized: Jid Ḥafṣ). It was a municipality located in Bahrain’s northern region. Its current territory is in the Northern Governorate and the Capital. 3 miles or so to the west of Manama, the capital. The villages of Al Musala and Tashan to the south, Jibilat Habshi and Muqsha to the west, and Al Daih and Sanabis to the north are its neighbors. 44,769 people called the city home in 1991.
Meaning and Origin
The word “Jid” means “coast,” according to Mohammed bin Ali Al Tajer, a historian and researcher from Bahrain, in his work Aqd Al Lalali Fi Tarikh Awal [page required]. As a result, it is believed that the phrase “Jid Hafs” means “Coast of Hafs.”
