Al Budaiya, also known as البديع in Arabic, is a seaside town in the Northern Governorate of the Kingdom of Bahrain, situated in the northwest of Bahrain Island. It is close to the villages of Bani Jamra and Diraz.
Past Events
The Dawasiri tribe built the town, but in 1923, after tensions with the British colonial authority erupted, the majority of the tribe moved in large numbers to mainland Saudi Arabia. After then, a large number of people from the Dawasir tribe moved back to Budaiya; some of them are still there now. The majority of Budaiya’s population worked in fishing and pearl diving before oil was discovered in Bahrain.
