Northern Bahrain’s Madinat Hamad, also known as Hamad Town Ḥamad, is a city mainly inhabited by commuters. It was a municipality located in Bahrain’s center region. Its land is currently in the Northern Governorate after it was divided in 1991 from the municipality of Ar Rifa’ wa al Mintaqah al Janubiyah. Its name is a reference to Bahrain’s reigning monarch, Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa. With a proportionately mixed Shia-Sunni population from a range of socioeconomic origins, the city boasts cultural diversity. With a diverse population that is not dominated by any one ethnic or religious group, Hamad Town is a prime example of Bahraini multiculturalism today.
