Among Canada’s thirteen provinces and territories is Alberta. It is one of the three prairie provinces and is located in Western Canada. Alberta shares borders with the U.S. state of Montana to the south, Saskatchewan to the east, the Northwest Territories to the north, and British Columbia to the west. Together with Saskatchewan, it is one of only two landlocked provinces in the nation. The Great Plains occupy the province’s eastern region, while the Rocky Mountains border its western region. Although the province mostly has a continental climate, the aridity of the air causes rapid temperature fluctuations. In western Alberta, seasonal temperature fluctuations are less noticeable because of sporadic Chinook winds.
