Iceland’s largest city and capital is Reykjavík. It is situated on the southern edge of the bay known as Faxaflói in southwest Iceland. The city is the world’s northernmost capital of a sovereign state, located at 64°08′ N in latitude. As of 2023, Reykjavík has almost 140,000 residents (compared to 121,822 in 2015). There are roughly 248,000 people living in the Capital Region.
