In the Andaman Archipelago of India, the largest town on North Andaman Island is called Diglipur (occasionally spelled Diglipore). It is situated 298 kilometers (185 miles) north of Port Blair on the southern edge of Aerial Bay, at an elevation of 43 meters (141 feet) above sea level. The sole river in the Andaman islands, the Kalpong River, crosses it. Approximately 10 km to the south is Saddle Peak, the highest point in the archipelago [1]. In the union territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Diglipur is a county (tehsil) of the North and Middle Andaman District. As of 2001, the population of this 884 km2 area was 42,877.
