Kurung Kumey district, with its district headquarters located in Koloriang, is one of the 26 districts that make up the state of Arunachal Pradesh in northeastern India.

Name origin
The Kurung and Kumey, the two main rivers that traverse this district, are the source of its name. Kurung and Kumey rivers were sisters, so the tradition goes, and during the marriageable age, Kurung eloped without her parents’ consent while Kumey married in accordance with their wishes. As a result, her parents yell and throw ashes after her, causing the Kurung to flow violently and with an ashy color, but the Kumey flows clearly and calmly as a result of her parents’ delight. Thus, folks Kurung River was not as gorgeous as Accepted River.
