An administrative district in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh is called Upper Siang. Out of 640 districts nationwide, it has the fourth-lowest population.

Past Events
The Memba and Khamba tribes coexist there, but the Adi tribe makes up the bulk of the population. When streams of Tibetan pilgrims sought the location of one of these earthly paradises known as Padma bkod (also written Pema köd, Pemakö, and Pemako), literally translated as “Lotus Array,” in the region, they were searching for one of the “hidden lands,” or beyul (Standard Tibetan: sbas-yul), mentioned in the prophecies of Guru Rinpoche in the East Himalayas starting in the middle of the seventeenth century.
