In addition to being a twin city with Jorhat, which is roughly 55 km away, Golaghat is one of the largest subdivisions of the Indian state of Assam. On October 5, 1987, Golaghat was promoted to the status of a full-fledged district headquarter. Golaghat is also a city [4], a municipality, and the location of the district’s administrative operations. It is one of the oldest cities in Assam and was recently included in the list of Smart Cities nominees, along with Guwahati and four other well-known cities in the state; nevertheless, it was ultimately defeated by Guwahati. One of the Brahmaputra’s tributaries, the Dhansiri, flows through Golaghat and provides the majority of the city’s residents with water.
