Assam, an Indian state, has a town called Haflong that serves as the center of the Dima Hasao district, formerly known as the North Cachar Hills district. In all of Assam, it is the sole hill station.

The Dimasa word “haflong” means “ant hill.”

Geographical
Haflong experiences slightly less extreme weather than a tropical savanna (Köppen climate classification Aw), with a subtropical highland climate (Köppen climate classification Cwb). Haflong saw deluges of rain in May 2022, with the highest recorded total of 451 mm on May 14, 2022, compared to the yearly maximum of 190 to 200 mm.
