Located in the Kamrup district of Assam, India, Rangiya, often referred to as Rangia, is a large city in the Lower Assam division and a municipal board. In addition, Rangiya acts as the sub-divisional headquarters of Rangiya Sub-division and the headquarters of Kamrup District. The Northeast Frontier Railway, one of the main railway zones in India, has Rangiya as its divisional headquarters. The Baralia River runs through the center of the city. This is one of Rangiya’s notable features. The Indian Army’s Redhorn Division is about three kilometers away from the city.
Meaning and Origin
It is thought that the term “Rangiya” originated from the native term “Randiya”. Folklore in the area holds that “Diya” means “to give” and “Ran” implies “war” among Bhutanese communities.
