In the Indian state of Bihar, there is an administrative district called East Champaran.The district office is situated at Motihari. “Champaran” was the name of the single district that existed until 1971. The district was split into Purvi Champaran, East Champaran, and Paschimi Champaran, West Champaran, on December 1, 1971. Several kingdoms, including Videha, Sunga, and Kanvas, once ruled over the region that is now East Chamapran. Champaran was supposedly once a significant portion of King Janak’s realm. This is where Mahatma Gandhi launched his well-known Satyagraha movement.
