Mahishi is a hamlet in northern Bihar’s Saharsa district. It lies 8 kilometers west of Bangaon, Bihar, and 16 kilometers west of the Saharsa district headquarters. Owing to the Shaktipeeth of the Goddess Ugratara, it is a site of the highest religious significance. The villager population speaks Maithili. The distance to the western Kosi embankment is just a few hundred metres.
