Situated in the Mithila region of India, Naugachhia is a town in the Bhagalpur district of Bihar.[ The population of India was 49,069 according to the 2011 census. The average literacy rate in Naugachhia is 62%, which is lower than the 74% national average. The rate for men is 69%, while the rate for women is 55%. Of the population, 18% are younger than 9 years old.

Naugachhia might be eligible to be considered a district apart from Bhagalpur. A protest in favor of the town’s creation of a new district took place in 2018.
