Situated 60 kilometers (37 miles) west of Birgunj, in the Indian state of Bihar, lies the administrative district known as West Champaran. With a total area of 5,228 km2 (2,019 sq mi), it is the largest district in Bihar. It belongs to the Tirhut Division.[1] The district office is situated at Bettiah. The district’s open border with Nepal is well-known. Two important locations in West Champaran are Bhitiharwa, where Mahatma Gandhi launched the Satyagrah Aandolan, and Kumar Bagh, home of the SAIL Special Processing Unit.
In 2022, Bihar’s largest sugarcane-producing district is West Champaran.
Geography The West Champaran district is roughly the same size as Amund Ringnes Island in Canada, covering 5,228 square kilometers (2,019 sq mi)[3].
