Koriya district, sometimes referred to as Korea district, is a district in Central India’s northwest region of the state of Chhattisgarh. Baikunthpur is the district’s administrative center.

Knowledge of the region before to the 16th century is limited. Koriya was one of the princely states of the British Empire in India; Chang Bhakar was the other princely state located in the Koriya district. Following India’s independence in 1947, the rulers of Chang Bhakar and Koriya joined the Union of India on January 1, 1948, and both became a part of the state of Madhya Pradesh’s Surguja District.
