Tibetan Buddhism celebrates Losar, also known as Tibetan New Year (Tibetan: ལོ켋སར켋, Wylie: lo-sar; “new year”).Depending on local customs, the holiday is observed on different days throughout Tibet, Bhutan, Nepal, and India.The event is a new year’s festival that takes place on the first day of the lunisolar Tibetan calendar, which falls in February or March of 2024 according to the Gregorian calendar. The festivities began on February 10 and continued through the 12th of the same month. The Year of the Male Wood Dragon also began at that time.

The Nepalese version of the holiday, known as Lhosar, is celebrated roughly eight weeks ahead of the Tibetan Losa.
