The seaport city of Mormugao (Portuguese: Mormugão) is located in the South region of the Goa state, India’s Mormugao taluka (municipality). It is still Goa’s primary port and features a deep natural harbor.

Thirteen towns were taken out of the Salcette area towards the end of the Indo-Portuguese era in 1917 to form Morumugão, which had Mormugao harbor as its center. With Margao serving as its capital, the remaining 35 communities were kept in Salcette, which includes the modern-day Salcete taluka.
