Panchmahal, often spelled Panch Mahal, is a district in Gujarat State, Western India’s eastern region. The term panch-mahal, which translates to “five tehsils/talukas” (or sub-divisions), refers to the five sub-divisions of Gwalior State—Godhra, Dahod, Halol, Kalol, and Jhalod, Devgadh Baria—that were given to the British by Maharaja Jivajirao Scindia. As of 2001, the district had 2,390,776 residents, of which 12.51% lived in urban areas.
Situated at the easternmost point of the state lies the district. Its borders are to the north-east and east by the districts of Dahod, to the southwest by Vadodara, to the southeast by Chhota Udaipur, to the west by Kheda, and to the north by Mahisagar.
