One of the twenty-four districts that make up the Indian state of Jharkhand is Lohardaga district. The district’s administrative center, the town of Lohardaga, is honored in the district’s name. In 1983, the district was established by dividing a section of Ranchi district.
The districts of Ranchi in the east, Gumla in the south and west, and Latehar in the north encircle this one. The district is located between longitudes 84°40′ and 84°50′ east and latitudes 23°30′ and 23°40′ north. The district has a 1,502 km2 area.
It is the least populated district in Jharkhand (out of 24) as of 2011.
