The Indian state of Jharkhand is home to Medininagar, formerly known as Daltonganj, which is a city municipal corporation. Along with the block and subdivision of the same name, it serves as the administrative center for the Palamu district and division. Situated on the banks of the North Koel River is the city.
Name origin
During the British Raj, the city was called Daltonganj in honor of Irishman Colonel Edward Tuite Dalton[1] (1815–1880), an anthropologist who served as Chota Nagpur’s commissioner in 1861.The state government of Jharkhand changed the name to Medininagar in 2004[4] in honor of Raja Medini Ray of the Chero dynasty.
