Informally referred to as Karunāḍu, Karnataka is a state located in the southwest of India. With the passing of the States Reorganisation Act on November 1, 1956, it was established as Mysore State. In 1973, it changed its name to Karnataka. The state is bounded to the west by the Lakshadweep Sea, to the northwest by Goa, to the north by Maharashtra, to the northeast by Telangana, to the east by Andhra Pradesh, to the southeast by Tamil Nadu, and to the southwest by Kerala. 61,130,704 people were counted there in the 2011 census.With 31 districts, Karnataka is the eighth-most populous state in terms of population. Bangalore, the state capital, is the fourth most populous city in India with 15,257,000 people living there.

With a GDP per capita of ₹305,000 (US$3,800) and a gross domestic product of ₹20.5 trillion (US$260 billion), Karnataka has one of the most productive economies in the nation. When compared to other states in the nation, the state of Karnataka has one of the fastest rates of economic growth; in the fiscal year 2021–2022, the GSDP (Gross State Domestic Product) increased by 9.5%.
