Chikmagalur, sometimes known as Chikkamagaluru, is a district in Karnataka, India’s Malnad subregion. It was at Chikmagalur, India, that coffee was originally grown. The Tunga and Bhadra rivers originate in the highlands of Chikmagalur, which are a part of the Western Ghats. The district is home to Karnataka’s tallest peak, Mullayanagiri. The Sringeri Mutt, home of the Dakshina Peeta founded by Adi Shankaracharya, is a well-known landmark in the region.
