The district of Vijayanagara is situated in the Kalyana-Karnataka area of the southern Indian state of Karnataka.[1][2]

On October 2, 2021, Vijayanagara was formally separated from Ballari to become the state’s 31st district, with Hospet serving as the district center.[3][4] The district is home to various historical sites, including Hampi, the former capital of the renowned Vijayanagara Empire and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
