Kerala is a state in southern India that has 14 districts, including Kasaragod. On the southwest Malabar coast of India, its northern border, Thalappady, is only 9 km south of Ullal, the southernmost part of the large port city Mangalore.

Kasaragod, sometimes called Saptha Bhasha Sangama Bhoomi (The location where seven languages meet), is the northernmost district of Kerala.

The district is located on the Western Ghats, an area known for its abundant biodiversity. Up to May 24, 1984, it was a part of Kerala’s Kannur district.
