One of the 14 districts in the Indian state of Kerala, which is located along the Malabar Coast in the southwest, is Kozhikode, also known as Calicut district. The district headquarters is in Kozhikode, which is also referred to as Calicut. 67.15% of the district is urbanized.

The Kozhikode metropolitan region is the second largest in Kerala and the 19th largest in India, with a corporation limit population of 609,224 and a metropolitan population of almost 2 million. Kozhikode is categorized by the Indian government as a Tier 2 city. The area is home to three prestigious national universities: NIT Calicut, NIEIT, and IIM Kozhikode.
