One of Kerala, India’s fourteen districts is Pathanamthitta District. Pathanamthitta is the town where the district headquarters is located. Pathanamthitta is divided into four municipalities: Thiruvalla, Adoor, Pandalam, and Pathanamthitta.

With 1,197,412 residents, it ranked third among Kerala’s 14 districts in terms of population in the 2011 Census of India, behind Wayanad and Idukki Pathanamthitta, which was proclaimed the country’s first polio-free district. One percent of the district is urbanized. With a poverty rate of just 1.17% as of 2013, Pathanamthitta is among the richest districts in India and is in the top 5 districts with the lowest level of poverty in the country.
