n Kerala, India’s Kannur district, Payyanur is both a municipal town and a taluk, or sub-district administrative subdivision.] The fifth taluk in the district, Payyanur, was officially inaugurated on March 10, 2018, by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. There are 22 villages in the Payyanur taluk, 16 of which are de-linked from the Taliparamba taluk and 6 from the Kannur taluk. Situated on the Perumba River’s banks sits the settlement.
