Formerly known as Tellicherry, Thalassery is a municipality and commercial city on the Malabar Coast in the Kannur district of Kerala, India. Mahe, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kasaragod, and Kodagu (Karnataka) districts border the municipality. Just under 100,000 people live in the Thalassery municipality as of the 2011 census. The total area of Thalassery Heritage City is 23.98 square kilometers (9.26 square miles). Thalassery is located between 2.5 and 30 meters (8 and 98 feet, 5 inches) above mean sea level.
