Situated in the Malappuram district in the Indian state of Kerala, Tirur is a major municipal town encompassing an area of 16.55 square kilometers (6.39 sq mi).

Situated on the Shoranur–Mangalore line of the Southern Railway, it is 26 km (16 mi) west of Malappuram and 52.5 km (32.6 mi) south of Kozhikode. It is one of the main business areas in the Malappuram district.

With an average elevation of 2 meters (6 feet 7 inches) above sea level, Tirur is a key business hub for electronics and seafood in Northern Kerala.
