Located in Kerala state, India’s Kozhikode district, Vatakarat is a large town, municipality, and taluk. Bound by Mahé to the north and Payyoli to the south, the municipality of Vatakara is 23.33 km2 (9.01 sq mi)[2]. Across the valley are 22 panchayats that make up the Vatakara taluk headquarters. Vatakara was known as Kadathanadu under the Kolathiris’ and Zamorins’ rule. It belonged to the Malabar District’s North Malabar area in the state of Madras during the British Ra The ancient Lokanarkavu temple, located in Vatakara, is well-known due to the Vadakkan Pattukal, or North Malabar tales.A recently discovered species of tardigrade, or water bear, originating from the Vadakara coast has been named after the state of Kerala.
