One of the three island groupings that make up the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, India, is the Aminidivi Islands. It is the northern group of the Lakshadweep, generally divided by the 11th parallel north from the Laccadive Islands subgroup. The group’s overall land area is 9.26 km^2.
The Union Territory was once known as Laccadive, Minicoy, and Amindivi Islands; however, in 1973, an act of Parliament changed the name to Lakshadweep. A taluka, or subdivision, is formed by the Aminidivi group.[4] There are people living on the islands of Amini, Kiltan, Chetlat, Kadmat, and Bitra. Islam is the predominant religion of the islanders, who made up 18,876 of the population according to the 2001 census.
At 1,168 millimeters, Aminidivi has the most rainfall ever recorded in a 24-hour
