Central India’s Madhya Pradesh state includes the district of Dhar. The district’s administrative center is located in the medieval town of Dhar.
The district is 8,153 km2 in size. The districts of Barwani to the south, Jhabua and Alirajpur to the west, Khargone (West Nimar) to the southeast, Indore to the east, Ujjain to the northeast, and Ratlam to the north form its boundaries. It is a portion of Madhya Pradesh’s Indore Division. The district’s population increased by 25.60% from 1,740,329 in 2001 to 2,185,793 in the 2011 census. Dhar District includes the sizable industrial region of Pithampur. The district’s major tehsil is Kukshi.
