India’s Madhya Pradesh state contains the district known as Shivpuri District. The district office is located in the town of Shivpuri. NH-3, the National Highway, passes through the district.

Past Events
The majority of the current Shivpuri District was once part of the princely state of Gwalior’s Narwar District, which had Shivpuri as its administrative center. The princely states joined the Government of India following India’s independence in 1947, and the small princely state of Khaniadhana in the district’s southeast, parts of Datia state in the northeast, and the majority of Pauri estate in the northwest gave Shivpuri District its current borders. When Madhya Pradesh united with the new state of Madhya Bharat in 1956, Shivpuri District was included.
