One of the seven sisters of Northeast India, Mizoram is surrounded to the east and south by Myanmar (previously known as Burma), to the west by Bangladesh, and to the north by the states of Manipur, Assam, and Tripura.

The name Mizoram translates to “Land of the Highlanders,” and Mizo is the native tongue. The state’s dominant geography, the Mizo Hills, rises to a height of almost 2,000 meters (6560 feet) close to the Myanmar border. The state capital, Aizawl, is about 4,00 feet (1,220 meters) above sea level.

Mizoram is a place of immense natural beauty, an unending diversity of landscape with rich flora and fauna, clusters of whispering pines, and charming towns with houses on stilts. It is an amalgam of the erstwhile North and South Lushai Hill districts.
