The custom dates back to the 19th century, when nations would honor a notable accomplishment, particularly in the field of education, or a local educator. This is the primary cause of the various dates that Teachers’ Day is observed around the world.
To provide a few instances: Similar to Costa Rica, which celebrates Teachers Day on December 22 to honor the birthdate of education reformer Mauro Fernandez Acuna, India also observes Teachers Day on September 5 to honor Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the country’s second president and a renowned teacher and scholar.
