The district of Kapurthala is located in the northern Indian state of Punjab. The district office is located in the city of Kapurthala.

With 815,168 residents as of the 2011 census, Kapurthala District is among the smallest districts in Punjab in terms of both land and population. The Phagwara tehsil or block and the major Kapurthala-Sultanpur Lodhi portion make up the district, which is separated into two noncontiguous sections.
