Punjab, a state in India, has its northernmost district, Pathankot. The district headquarters are in Pathankot. July 27, 2011, saw the formation of the district. Pakistan is its neighbor.

Meaning and Origin
During the Mughal era, Pathankot was known by its original name, Paithan, which is thought to be a variation of the Sanskrit Pratisthana. Later, the Chandravanshi Rajput clan (Pathania, which means “no Pathans”) recovered Paithan once more and gave him the name Pathankot.Fort is indicated with the suffix ‘kot’.
