The district of Kota is located in the western Indian state of Rajasthan. The district’s administrative center is located in the city of Kota.

Rao Deva, a Hada chieftain, invaded the region and established Bundi and Hadoti in the 12th century AD. Early in the 17th century AD, Rao Ratan Singh, the king of Bundi, awarded his son Madho Singh the smaller principality of Kota under the reign of Mughal Emperor Jahangir. Ever since, Kota has come to represent the valor and culture of the Rajputs.
