Avad is the administrative center of Avadi Taluk, which is situated in the Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu, India. It is a western suburb of Chennai. One of the four municipal corporations in the Chennai Metropolitan Area, it located roughly 22 kilometers (14 miles) from Chennai Central Railway Station and is overseen by the Avadi Municipal Corporation. It is surrounded by important military installations and has several engineering and university colleges. The Chennai Suburban Railway’s Avadi Railway Station serves the neighborhood. With 345,996 residents as of 2011, Avadi is the tenth most populous place in Tamil Nadu.
