One of Tamil Nadu, India’s 38 districts, is Tiruchirappalli District, which is situated by the Kaveri River. The city of Tiruchirappalli serves as the district headquarters.

The district was renamed after India gained independence in 1947. Prior to the British Raj, it was known as Trichinopoly and was a district of the Madras Presidency.
