The Indian state of Tamil Nadu contains the industrial town of Neyveli in the Cuddalore district. It is situated 197 kilometers (122 miles) south of Chennai and 62 kilometers (39 miles) inland from the Bay of Bengal, west of Pondicherry. Following the founding of the public sector company Neyveli Lignite Corporation, the town was established in 1956.
