Vellore district was divided to become Ranipet district, one of Tamil Nadu’s 38 districts in India. Tamil Nadu government and the Tirupattur district jointly unveiled their plan on August 15, 2019. However, the Tamil Nadu government formally announced it on November 28, 2019. The district office would be located in the town of Ranipet.
