One of the 38 districts in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu is Thoothukudi District. On October 20, 1986, the district was created through the division of the Tirunelveli district. The major city in the district and its headquarters is Thoothukudi. In addition to pearl farming, the neighborhood is well-known for its fishing, with the offshore seas yielding an abundance of pearls. The Thoothukudi area is home to numerous historical sites, including the ancient trading port of Korkai and Adichanallur.
