South Indian state of Tamil Nadu has the district of Virudhunagar as one of its administrative divisions. The district office for the Virudhunagar district is located at Virudhunagar. Old Ramanathapuram District G.O. passed on March 8, 1985, and created on March 15, 1985 into Ramanathapuram District, Sivagangai District, and the western portion as Virudhunagar District. This division resulted in the formation of Virudhunagar District. Karmavirer Kamarajar District was the previous name of Virudhunagar District.
