Concerning Telangana

On June 2, 2014, Telangana was admitted as the 29th state of India. Previously a part of Andhra Pradesh, it is now the 28th state of India after the Union government split Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories. The region that is now Telangana was a part of the Nizam-ruled state of Hyderabad prior to India’s independence. Hyderabad was divided into two parts, Warangal and Medak, which united to form the Indian Union in 1948. At that time, 35,193,978 people lived in the region, according to the 2011 Census, making up 41.6% of Andhra Pradesh’s total population. There are 31 districts in Telangana
